So first let me introduce myself... Hi! I'm 'Skyla The Stylist'

I'm a licensed professional hairstylist that's been doing hair all of my life but licensed since 2016. I got my license in Jacksonville, Florida, then moved to Savannah, GA where I got licensed again. Then finally to Virginia Beach, where I got licensed a final time and have been doing hair here ever since!

With over 6 years of professional experience, I've served a variety of different clientele in my years of being a hairstylist. And now. I Focus mainly on natural, healthy hair.

My mission is Catering to women by providing hair services that range from extensions, silk press and creative color while specializing in healthy hair maintenance to help you fall in love with your hair, with or without weave.

Now, that that's out of the way, lets focus on why you're here..

To learn about reviving your damaged hair!

Okay, so first let's talk about what makes hair "healthy"

Okay, without going into extreme scientific details (breaking down what hair bonds mean etc) that'll surely bore you... Let's just say that Healthy hair is hair that has bonds that are fully intact and has moisture within the hair strand.

Since the bonds are intact and fully moisturized, this will give your hair ultimate luster and shine. It will also keep your hair from breaking. Both of these are examples of things that usually indicate that your hair is unhealthy.

So, here's an example:

A Client comes into my salon and they're sad. They say to me "My hair isn't growing" or "my hair is breaking off" or "My hair is so damaged". I usually know this likely means a few things:

1. Their hair is likely growing but they can't see the length
2. Their hair is weak
3. Their hair lacks moisture

I also know that this client likely is a DIY queen and doesn't really believe in a salon regimen and does everything at the house by watching Youtube videos.

While I have nothing against Youtube University, I fully believe in finding the best stylist to help you on your journey to healthy hair.

So here's the meat and potatoes of it all:

If you want to revive your unhealthy hair it starts with these essential products and steps.

products:

Shampoo and condition your hair with moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. While the brand of products do matter, I typically stay with professional products because they do what they say they're going to do. So, a good rule of thumb is: the higher the price, the likelihood of it being a professional product.

Here's a tried and true favorite of mine: MATRIX BIOLAGE SMOOTH PROOF

When shampooing your hair, remember to WASH WITH WARM water (2 x's), then apply conditioner and RINSE WITH COOL water.
Long story-short: This will help to open the hair's cuticle (which allows the hair to receive/take in the moisturizing shampoo) and then close the hair's cuticle so that it seals in the moisture!

Congratulations! You've invested in a quality shampoo and conditioner, that's the first step.

....Now, do that at least once a week (Unless your hair is in a protective style like: braids, a sew-in etc)

NEXT STEP:

Every 6 weeks, you'll need to get your hair deep-conditioned and trimmed.

DEEP CONDITION

Remember when we said that you need to "seal in the moisture", think of a deep condition like a better version of that! It gets deeper and lasts longer than your normal conditioner.

And like with everything else in life, too much of anything can turn a good thing into a bad.

So, don't think that you're beating the system by keeping your conditioner on longer (an hour+ or overnight) or doing it more often. It doesn't work like that. If you're someone who has really damaged hair and you're desperate to repair your hair... at the minimum, I'd deep condition it once a month.

TRIMS

Trimming your hair keeps it healthy! I know, it sounds crazy, right? How can cutting my hair benefit me?

Well, it does because it allows the ends of your hair to separate from the rest. If you decide to keep the ends of your hair for too long, it'll split and travel up the shaft and won't be repairable. So, it's simple, trim about 1/2" every 6-8 weeks and it'll stay healthier and appear to grow faster.

NEXT STEP:

Okay, take a breath! I know that was a lot but it gets better...
You've shampooed conditioned, deep conditioned, AND received a haircut.. good job!
Last but not least is to maintain health.

Although there are so many ways to maintain the health of your hair, one foolproof way that I wish I  knew about sooner... is... a leave-in conditioner.

Now! Remember everything we've learned about conditioning? Well, you can do it while you're just living life.
  1.  Apply a leave-in conditioner to your hair to maintain moisture.
  2.  For curlier hair types, I'd also add oil to help seal that moisture!

Here is my favorite leave-in conditioner:

Okay, there are many many ways to revive damaged hair but here are a few of the ESSENTIAL BASICS!

Do these and I'm sure you'll see a change in your hair!
