Lets Talk: CURLS & CURLY HAIR

LETS TALK: CURLS... YOUR CURL GUIDE!

I know first hand just how hard it's been over the years trying to find hair products that serve my curls' needs. Making our way through the local Asian owned beauty supply store to get our hair care needs wasn't the best plan but for years, it was all we had.

The awesome thing - is that now, As a community, we've grown so much! Doesn't it feel like EVERY one is into curls these days? Claiming that their brand is all curl specific.

It leaves you feeling like... maybe the brand can't be made specifically for all curl types, especially the really curly ones.

So, that's why Im here! To help you fall in love with your hair. Sharing some products that take you from curly crazy to curly & sexy

Here are my two favorite brands for curls right now:

#1. OUIDAD

In this brand, there are different types of lines that serve different needs.  Moisture lock, advanced climate control and vital curl.

My favorite amongst them is the curl quencher! (The blue bottle).

this ranks top tier because... you guessed it! It helps to retain the moisture!

#2. CURL SMITH
My favorite amongst them is the curl souffle! It's very similar to OUIDAD's curl custard in texture.

Surely these two product lines will take you where you need to go when you're styling & defining your curls.

Here's Proof:

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT GOIN BLONDE

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT GOIN BLONDE

                                                       Instagram

Let's just be honest: There's plenty of reasons why you shouldn't go blonde in one day.
And if health integrity of any importance to you, then you want to allow the "going blonde" scenario to be a process.
Typically clients aren't able to go from black to blonde in the same day but in some rare cases, we can!

Step 1. CONSULTATION:

This is where me and the client get personal and honest about what "we've really done to our hair"
- Have you done any box dyes?
-Do you use professional shampoo at home?
- When was the last time you got your hair colored or lightened?

This is where we decide on whether or not you're a good candidate for lightening or not.
To be blunt, a box dyed client is not a good client for blonding... :/

Step 2. PREPARATION:

Depending on the integrity of your hair, you may need to get a treatment done a few weeks before the initial lightening process.

- At-home treatments and professional in-salon treatments are not created equal.

Step 3. LIGHTENING/TREATMENT:

During the lightening process, using a treatment (preferably olaplex) inside of the lightener is ideal.

Whats olaplex?

It's a system that permanently rebuilds the damaged disulphide bonds in your hair that are broken during the chemical process. If you've over-bleached or had your hair highlighted for years, Olaplex allows you to rebuild the strength, structure and integrity of your hair; a 'reset' for your locks, if you will.

Step 4. Toning:

Let's talk, Toners!
This is what takes a very bright lightened hair color to a calm, not so yellow or brassy blonde.
My favorite is: Redken Shades EQ

Step 5: After-care:

It's important I send my clients home with after-care products so that they're able to treat their hair with care until I see them next!
